NOTE - The Great white sharks are not around any more - no GWS has been seen in 2019, so this trip is no longer available.
If you want to Google more about the disappearance of these Sharks, Goole Dr Sara Andriotti - and of course "what happened to the Great White Sharks around the South African coast"
Photographing the highly endangered Great White Shark in it's natural habitat. Gansbaai is one of the best hotspots of great White sharks, and weather permitting, you are just about guaranteed to see them. Bucket list stuff.
We join Shark Diving Unlimited, home of Mike Rutzen - the Shark man. Mike Rutzen has been in involved with sharks for over 20 years. His qualifications stretch longer than the average Great White; including Dubbed “The Shark man” for his ability to swim with these magnificent animals, Mike is also considered an expert in this field; his work has been featured on TV programs worldwide with Shark Diving Unlimited being the go-to organisation for high-profile and celebrity clients.
This is a very early morning trip and you will be collected from your pick up point well before sunrise, enjoy a light breakfast at the operator's lodge and briefed before embarking on this experience. We will advise on what lenses to take, settings and position on the boat. For those wanting to go in the cage - with or without a camera - this is included in the cost.
In whale season the boat will take us as close to the whales as possible - often just drifting and allowing the whales to come to us - which they usually do - and they are not called sea blobs for no reason! You will also see the birds and Cape Fur Seals on:
- Geyser Rock
- Dyer Island
After our boat trip we depart from Gansbaai, with a drive past Hermanus which sports a scenic old harbour, see more whales, and on to the next destination, unless you want to go back for a second session on the boat!
